The process of painting is pure delight, where I explore theinterconnectedness of the natural world – humans, skies, earth, critters, hills, oceans, and rivers – and humankind’s precarious balance within it.There is often an abstract reference to landscape in my work, as I drawinspiration from the bountiful beauty of Puget Sound and EasternWashington, as well as my imagination, and things that are happening out in the world. I enjoy working across several mediums – encaustic, oil, printmaking,watercolor, and collage/mixed media. Encaustic, with its transparency,allows particles to suspend within the undersurface, giving the imageslayers of depth and luminosity. I love adding detritus into the pristine waxsurface. Collage and mixed media allow me to reinvent the composition asthe layers come together. Each painting is a discovery, an opportunity tolearn from a ‘mistake’, and an attempt to create beauty in my small cornerof the world. I often remind myself that really, there are no mistakes in Art,only happy accidents. The canvas is a mirror that will magically reflect and reveal energy and emotion.I am a lifelong Washingtonian – born in Edmonds, raised in Yakima – and a resident of Seattle since earning my BFA in Interior Design at the U of W in‘82. My Interior Design practice continues to complement and inform myart, where the worlds of color, proportion, and material interweave.
